Job Description

Are you a technical leader in the electrical design of product development looking for a new challenge in the electrical energy supply industry or the control and instrumentation discipline?

Do you have the experience and knowledge to act as the principal design authority for all electrical solutions provided by the Project Services team for large scale grid projects; including developing and implementing guidelines, policies and processes to deliver the superior engineering strategy?

If this sound like you then we are recruiting for a superb opportunity for a Design & Product Support Manager for a Global technology business with a base in the Kent.

As a Design & Product Support Manager you lead and manage the staff and resources within the Design & Product Support department and ensure customers receive a professional service. You will also need a working knowledge of cyber security /solutions security (PSS)

This is a hybrid position and required on site in Rochester for 3 to 4 days a week.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and manage the design and product support unit; including training and mentoring staff
  • Act as the principal design authority for all solutions provided; including developing and implementing guidelines, policies and processes to deliver the superior engineering strategy
  • Keep up to date with emerging technologies e.g., IEC 61850 and embed into their products and service offering
  • Oversee evaluation of potential new products to ensure that all functional and safety requirements are met
  • Act as the head of laboratory and ensure compliance with industry regulations; including UKAS and ISO 17025 requirements
  • Act as the secondary management system signatory for UKAS laboratory
  • Work closely with the Project Service Support Manager to plan and allocate resources to projects and other business unit activities
  • Put appropriate succession plan in place for key roles e.g., Product Manager
  • Support the Head of Project Services in the delivery of Project Services strategic plan

What do you need to qualify for this role?

  • Experience in electronics and product development environment
  • Good understanding of the electricity supply industry and how the transmission systems work
  • Solid understanding of projects including network communications, 4G solutions, LTE, Dynamic system monitoring, Power quality, G99 etc
  • Solid understanding of safety standards e.g., UKCA compliance
  • Working knowledge of Cybersecurity / products and solutions security (PSS)
  • Strong commercial acumen, with good customer relationship skills
  • Ability to coach, lead, and motivate others
  • IT literate, with good knowledge of IT systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Good knowledge of Quality Assurance systems
